Flick #6-B: "London Has Fallen"

At first I was contemplating about writing a review of the equally ridiculous and bombastic predecessor "Olympus Has Fallen", but then came to an immediate and time-saving realization that much like their titles, both films pretty much share the same qualities in terms of their general premise: i.e., a major global landmark gets hit hard by a group of almost effortlessly-racist bad guys with the POTUS caught in between all the commotion. And very much like the first one, this movie suffers from the utter lack of any substance, proper execution, and akin to the indiscriminately slayed world leaders and civilians in both movies: bullet-ridden--with plot holes.

Strongest on-screen Bromance in recent memory.
"London Has Fallen" stands more competent when it plays to its physicality, lots of entertaining kills and action, which were amusing enough thanks to Gerard Butler who has carried both movies by being so damn enjoyable to watch that he made a movie like this somehow entertaining. But in the end, it still falls short, specially when you compare it to recent action movies such as The Raid 1 & 2, John Wick and Mad Max, which should just be the gold-standard movies when it comes to action, really. The CGI just looks bad...err, nothing more to say there. The cast did relatively well with a special mention to Butler and Eckhart's characters for being amusing enough of a super-bro duo. The cinematography was nothing special aside from that one sequence in the middle where they attempt a Cuaron or Iñárritu-esque long shot that closely follows a protagonist during an intense combat without any cuts which much to my surprise, was kind of cool, had there been something that actually happened during it. Which just about how this movie went actually. It goes on and ramps up a mediocre, yet fun mess, but conclusively fizzles to a dull and inept ending as if a poorly-engineered and built missile was launched without having enough fuel to reach its destination.

To sum it up: it's big, it's fucking dumb...but it's fun.
...so take that as you will.
